Bill & Ted to return for another excellent adventure?

I’m as vaguely embarrassed as anyone to admit that Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure has pride of place in my to 38 movies of all time, but what can I say? Excellence is as excellence does, and that film (and its sequel) were just, like, most excellent, and I enjoy them on a regular basis.
Why am I suddenly and randomly talking about Bill & Ted here at Spectra Magazine? Well, considering the affable duo’s journey through time, the afterlife and some most excellent tunes, it’s a franchise that can’t easily be excluded from either the sci-fi or fantasy genres. Indeed, the Bogus Journey is a great example of what can be done with a contemporary fantasy.
Anyway, Keanu Reeves was waxing nostalgic recently, and pointed out that when Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2014, he’ll be turning 50 (where do the years go?). This inevitably led to a line of questioning about the series’s potential return, which is apparently not at all unlikely.
Co-star Alex Winter has also been speaking out about the possibility of Bill & Ted 3, saying original screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon are already working on a script. Apparently this won’t involved the aging rockers handing off the limelight to their kids, and the original members of the world-saving rock band Wyld Stallyns are up for returning. Of course, the series won’t be quite the same for the lack of the late great George Carlin, whose small but vital role as Rufus will be sorely missed.
I’ve got to admit that news of Bill & Ted 3 is about as exciting as any coming from the movie world right now. Better break out your air guitars dudes, and don’t forget: Be excellent to each other!
