Dune props up for auction
Like all the great sci-fi and fantasy novels, Dune captured the imagination of readers by taking them on a whirlwind journey through a living, breathing mythology. The cult Frank Herbert novel has seen two adaptations – the 1984 movie and a TV mini-serial in 2000 – and both worked hard to successfully visualise that rich mythology centering on the Atreides family.

And now you can own a piece of the Arrakis Royal Family’s legacy, as the Prop Store is auctioning off a host of memorabilia from both adaptations. A wide range of costumes makes up the bulk of the 2000 TV serial collection, but I dare say more people will be interested in the cornucopia of paraphernalia from the David Lynch movie.
Included in the auction are uniforms of the House Atreides, the snake ring worn by the young Aria Atreides, a thumper worm caller, several Fremen still suits and perhaps my favorite piece from the collection, the original harnd-carved wooden master used to mould the Fremen wormtooth knives – you saw one of these find a new sheath in the shape of Sting’s head at the end of the film.

But these aren’t going cheap. Paul Atreides’s still suit jacket is falling apart at them seams, but is still expected to bring in over $5000 at the auction. So you’d better get saving your spice if you want to pick up some of this awesome sci-fi ephemera.
